Hi, I'm MIchaela!
About me
Hi, I’m Michaela! I’m an everyday girl from Vermont with big dreams to see the world. I currently live in upstate New York with my husband Lucas, and cat-child Rondo. When I am not traveling, I work as a Social Media Manager in the healthcare industry.
If I had to pick one passion in life it’s travel. Without a doubt. I’m the person that can NOT for the life of me choose where I want to go next because I want to go EVERYWHERE. I love big cities, small mountain towns, the beach, you name it. I wanna see it ALL.
Although I have a 9-5 job with limited vacation days, I make it a priority to never lose this urge to travel and I MAKE IT HAPPEN! I work my butt off to check the next item off my bucket list. And you know what’s even better? SO CAN YOU!
If you like any of the following things, we have potential to be best friends:
- White wine and strong coffee
- The ocean
- Constantly checking flight deals
- Reality TV
- Listening to Christmas music year round
- TACOS
- Cats
- Hoppy IPA’s and fruity sour beers
- The New England Patriots (whoops, there go half my readers…)
- Corny dad jokes
- The satisfaction of crossing something off your Bucket List
Why Shipping Across The Globe?
With my maiden name being SHIPman I wanted to incorporate that into my love of travel. I had so many names swimming in my mind for months. This one came to me in the middle of the night after I woke up from a weird dream. I jotted it down in my phone notes, and ever since it seemed to stick, And just like that, Shipping Across The Globe was born!
So what's the point of all this...?
I always see blog posts that start with “I quit my full time corporate job to travel the world…” and as much as it sounds like a dream, it’s just not feasible for everyone. (Including myself.) As much as I LOVE being in an exotic country half way around the world, there is something to be said about coming home from a long trip and sleeping in your own bed. Am I right?!
In 2013 I went on a trip to Thailand that scared the living daylights out of me. Everything on that itinerary gave me the nervous sweats; sleeping in a hut in the hill tribes, taking a 24 hour flight, riding everywhere in the back of a tuk tuk.
As a teenager mixed with low self esteem, anxiety, and fear of almost anything, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. And that, my friends, is exactly why I did. I wholeheartedly believe that if you don’t push yourself outside your comfort zone, you will not grow as a person… and who the hell wants that?
This blog is here for you every step of the way. I hope to give you helpful information you can use throughout your adventures, and inspire you to live out your dreams and GO on that trip of a lifetime.
